Guidance from scientists who have been studying such situations may be needed especially in the situations of recovery or protection of habitats. AEP - 18 Jul 2008 (1) Walls to Protect Jungles. We could build tall, strong, thick walls to protect the boundaries of old growth bio-diverse jungles from the encroachment of strangling vines at the exposed boundaries of such jungles. AEP - 18 July 2008 (2) Ocean Barriers/Islands. We could build appropriate barriers in some places in the ocean to protect certain natural habitat. Having enough holes in such barriers would be necessary to allow things to flow in and out. The barriers could be made in part of artificial reefs (see next idea) or islands. Material for such things can be used in part from material dumped in the ocean at the mouths of rivers. Solid building materials could be produced by high heat and/or pressure. AEP - 18 July 2008 (3) Artificial Reefs. We could build appropriate artificial reefs to start new coral reefs to grow on them in some places in the ocean to protect certain protected natural habitat places. The reefs could be added incrementally in areas where the ocean environment has previously been disturbed and where the addition of such reefs might be considered helpful in bring back appropriate conditions considered to be more benevolent to ocean life. AEP - 18 July 2008 (4) Artificial Wetlands/Marshlands. Near areas where Wetlands/Marshlands are being lost due to encroachment of the ocean, some pockets of areas could be created by selectively bringing in additional material to give the wetlands a fighting chance to recover or new such lands to be reestablished. It should be done on an incremental basis to help make sure that the changes are beneficial rather than more harmful. There might be a way to slowly add material, far enough below so as not to be disruptive of the earth to water boundary so as to encourage the wetland life to return. AEP - 18 July 2008 (5) Deserts to Blossom. Seawater could be desalted and brought inland to deserts. Soils could be rebuilt/constituted with nutrients. North Africa could be reforested. The Sahara could be shrunk and made botanically productive as much of it once was (prior to its growth).
